As hard as you like. Every box has a backboard engraved with the cut pattern (beginner), an outer frame (intermediate), or you can go freeform (expert). It's an evening's puzzle for most people, and subscribers tell us their four- and five-year-olds help out.
About 7" × 10" when finished, with 73 to 184 thick wooden pieces. Small enough for a coffee table, and the flat box stores like a record album.
